Process

Two weeks, and you are only needed on three days of it.

Every build launches inside two weeks, whether it's Foundation, Growth or Authority, and a rush launches inside one. The days below are working days. Most of the work is ours. Here is where you come into it, and what stalls a build when it stalls.

What happens

Days one and two: the record

We go through the current site and write down everything that is true, everything that is missing and everything nobody can answer yet. Unknowns stay marked as unknown, and they never get filled in with something plausible.

Days one and two: capture

Every page of the old site is saved before anything changes, along with the photographs, the text and the addresses. That is what makes the URL map possible later.

Days three and four: design

You see the home page and one inner page, in your palette, with your words. Three rounds of changes are included, and after the third the design is final.

Days five to eight: build

Pages, photographs, the facts behind each page, the editor and the availability engine. You get a link to watch it happen, and you can leave comments on it.

Day nine: the URL map

Every address on the old site is pointed at its new home. This is the boring part that decides whether the rebuild costs you the ranking you already had.

Day ten: launch

Pointing your web address at the new site, telling Google where the pages are, a run through the checks, and half an hour showing you the editor. Then the care plan starts and we're the people you write to.

What we need from you

Less than you think. In the first two days: access to the current site and your web address, your photographs, and an hour on the phone. After that you're needed twice, once to approve the design and once at launch. That's the three days.

What stalls a build

Photographs. It's almost never the writing, the design or anything technical. If you have good photographs of your adults and your last litter ready on day one, the build runs on schedule. If you don't, that is the thing to start on now.

Two things that usually get skipped

  • The facts record. Anything nobody can confirm renders as nothing at all on the finished site. It isn't replaced with a placeholder or a plausible guess. It's why the two testimonials below are their authors' exact words, read and approved by them before they went up.
  • The URL map. Every old address gets a destination before launch. A rebuild that skips it is a rebuild that quietly resets your search history, and you usually find out about it months later.

In their words

“I am not a computer person. I add a kitten from my phone and it is on the site a minute later, and that is the whole reason this works for me. Buyers read everything before they write, so the people who contact me are ready. Mark built it, he keeps it running, and I have never had to wait on him.”

“Our old site was not designed for phones and we were not showing up on Google at all. Mark rebuilt the whole site and kept me in the loop the entire time. Now the site looks the way I wanted our cattery to look, it works on a phone, and buyers from outside the area are finding us.”
