Why these are free

Because gating a calculator behind an email address is charging for something that costs nothing to give away, and you have probably handed over your address for worse. If a tool is useful you'll come back to it, and that's worth more than a name on a list.

They also run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere, so the names in your pedigree stay on your own machine.

Where the rules come from

Both tools work from published sources rather than from our own opinion, and the sources are named on each page. The Ragdoll pattern inheritance comes from the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy breeding policy. The color genetics come from the UC Davis Veterinary Genetics Laboratory. The inbreeding math is Wright's, published in 1922, and you can check it against the pairings whose answers everybody already knows.

One for your own breed

Search for a cat color calculator and look at who comes up. A lot of them belong to individual catteries rather than to companies, because a breeder built one, put it on their own site, and other breeders started linking to it. For a small breeder site that is the kind of page that can earn links without asking for them.
